Furniture assembly, at your flat

Flat-pack from IKEA, a wardrobe off Wallapop, the bookcase the last tenant left in pieces. I collect it if you need me to, carry it up your stairs and build it. You get the price on WhatsApp before I set off.

What I build

IKEA, collected and built

One visit: I pick it up from the store, bring it over and assemble it. No waiting two weeks for a delivery slot and then another for a fitter.

Second hand and inherited

Usually no instructions and sometimes a missing fitting. Send photos of it in pieces and I will tell you honestly whether it goes back together before you pay anyone to try.

Anchored to the wall

Anything tall gets fixed to the wall. It is included. Spanish flats have a lot of hollow brick and it needs the right fixing, not the one in the box.

Taken apart and rebuilt for a move

Wardrobe down, into the van, back up and rebuilt in the new flat. One job, one price, one person carrying the responsibility.

Questions people ask

How much is furniture assembly in Madrid?

From €65 for a straightforward piece — a bed frame, a desk, a chest of drawers. A full PAX wardrobe with sliding doors is more, because it is two hours of work and it has to be anchored to the wall properly. I quote the piece, not the hour.

Can you collect it as well as build it?

Yes, and it usually works out cheaper than doing the two separately. I pick it up from IKEA, Leroy Merlin, Bricomart or the seller's flat, bring it to yours, carry it up and assemble it in the same visit.

What about furniture I bought second hand?

That is a lot of what I assemble. Wallapop, Vinted, Milanuncios, or a wardrobe inherited from a flatmate who left. Second-hand pieces often arrive without instructions or missing a fitting, so send me photos of it disassembled and I will tell you before the day whether it can be rebuilt.

Do you anchor wardrobes to the wall?

Always, on anything tall. A tall wardrobe or a bookcase that is not fixed to the wall is a genuine hazard, particularly with children in the flat. It is included, not an extra.

Can you take apart furniture before a move?

Yes. Taking it apart, moving it and putting it back together is one job and I price it as one job. It is almost always cheaper than paying two people to do the halves.
